why do we walk

The Daisy Walk is a charity walk where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to raise awareness and show support for veteran and military family members affected by service-connected mental illness (i.e. PTSD, anxiety, depression) which often results in suicide attempts or suicide.

VSSN combats suicide and attempts with supportive mental and behavioral health residential and center-based services. The Daisy Walk is a charity walk designed to support VSSN’s efforts to help those access and be compliant with mental health services through building supportive housing and support services for veterans and service-connected families.    learn more

  • Daisy Dedication Route”

(2.3 miles) goes from Meridian Parkway (across from RNC)to the Riverside National Cemetery (RNC) where walkers will meet with a guide (most guides are service connected dignitaries and/or public officials) who will provide an educational tour and walkers can place daisies on memorial walls. • “Daisy Walk Street Route” starts in the Meridian Parkway (across from RNC) and leads through the industrial park with checkpoints and festive decor for walkers or cyclists. This walk is just less than 1 miles.  Walkers can return or take the “Daisy Dedication Route”.

share the awareness

The Daisy Walk is an awareness walk where people of all ages and backgrounds come together to raise awareness and show support for veteran and military family members affected by service connected mental illness (i.e. PTSD, anxiety, depression) which often results in suicide attempts or completion.

Walkers can lay daisies on the National Medal of Honor in Riverside National Cemetary as apart of the dedication walk.

Walkers are also asked to express why they are walking with colored daisies that symbolizes there connection. Red daisies represents a person who had lost a loved one or friend to suicide. Gold daisies represents a person who identified with, connected to, or supported a person with suicide  ideation and Blue daisies represents a person who recognizes the struggle and impact of suicide ideation and is in full support of raising awareness.

Walkers enjoy free breakfast from Dunkin Donuts, and lunch with Luna Grill and Red Robin. The walk is free for military and veteran families with ID!
